Check for base metal (non-precious metals containing nickel or iron).
Most items attracted by a magnet will not contain precious metal and most refiners will not accept them when you want to sell gold or silver.
Neodymium magnets are brittle and can be broken or can splinter. One should wear gloves and protective glasses when handling these magnets.
Magnets will lose their magnetic properties if heated above 175°F (80°C).
