Neutralizing solution in most cases is an acidic blend.
Given that most surface preparation agents are heavy alkaline in nature, the acid acts as a neutralizing agent and eliminates any residue of the cleaner that remains on the metallic substrate as drag-out.
The neutralization tank is a very important step. If the degreaser/electro-cleaner is introduced into the subsequent plating solutions via drag-in, the pH of the baths risk dramatic fluctuation due to cross contamination resulting in poor plating results or metal precipitation.
